“No more falling?
I shake my head. “I guess I was waiting to see if you were going to catch me.”
“I’ll always catch you.”
If I had to summarize this book in one word, it would have to be SWOON! I absolutely adore this book. The characters are fantastic, the story line drew me in from the very start and held me the whole way through, and the writing is fantastic. I mean, what more could you want in a book?
This is the third book in Carey Heywood’s The Fix series, and I have loved every single one. They are connected stand alones, but I’m glad I started at the beginning and read through in order, because they all come and go in each of the books, and I love seeing the characters I have already fallen in love with as their stories progress.
This book features Spencer and Abby. They are completely perfect! Spencer, an astrophysicist, returns home to work at the local university, Woodlake University. When he returns, he needs to find a place of his own to escape his parents’ basement, and who better to help him than realtor Abby Thompson? The catch? Abby was the high school crush he never really got over. The awkward nerd and the gorgeous, popular girl don’t really mix, do they? Abby has struggled with feeling a bit inferior in such a successful family. Sure, she has a lot going for her. She’s smart, strong, successful, gorgeous, fun, and kind. There’s a lot more to her than what meets the eye. Finding someone to embrace all of her seems to be harder than it should be.
I loved the friendship that developed between these two. They developed such a deep relationship before even pursuing the romantic side of things. I loved that they both had their own doubts and insecurities, but with a little help from their friends they manage to fight through. These two develop a complete respect for one another that offers such a strong foundation when things finally do take a turn from friendship. And when they do, SWOON! Spencer is completely amazing! And I love Abby. I love how strong she is while still being so kind and caring to everyone around her.
I would be completely remiss if I didn’t also mention the side characters. Not only do we get to see the Thompson family, Abby and Spencer have some friends that add a lot to this book. Duncan had me laughing and so curious. I mean, there has to be more to his story, but for now, he provided great comic relief. I also completely adored Sam. I hope she continues to pop up in other books (and maybe even gets her own story or novella with her special someone?). She was such a great friend, but also completely interesting and lovable in her own right.
Overall, this story was completely perfect. If you enjoy sweet romance with swoony heroes and strong heroines, this is an excellent choice. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us with this series! The only thing I know for sure is that I will be reading it!
