I put off writing a review for this after finishing, because my words just couldn’t do it justice. I’m still not sure I have the words for it, so you should really just stop reading and go buy it. You can thank me later.
This book. This book is everything. I inhaled it and was ready to immediately reread it. I absolutely adored both the love story and the suspense. When I started reading, I absolutely had to know what was going to happen. Between Dawson and Violet finally getting their chance (or maybe finally making it their chance?) to find their happily ever after and knowing that everyone was going to make it out of this mess in one piece, I struggled to put it down. As the story progressed, I fell harder and harder for all of these characters.
Dawson and Violet are perfect. I adored them as a couple as well as individual characters. Violet is so smart, but she’s gone for so long on what she (or others) thought she should do rather than what she wanted. Watching her take charge and grow through this book was so much fun! And Dawson….sigh. Dawson is the bad boy with a heart of gold. Wanting to prove his worth may have him in over his head, but watching him protect those he loves so selflessly had me swooning. Seeing his struggle to do what he believes is right broke my heart, but it made their HEA that much more sweet.
If you are ready for the book hangover of all book hangovers, you want to read this. If you love action and suspense woven perfectly with a love story that will melt your heart, you want to read this. If you want a fantastic story you won’t be able to put down, you want to read this. This is seriously a new favorite for me.

A daring and decadent romantic suspense that whirls the reader around the globe and back.
Violet Banner was only sixteen when she and Dawson Langley first met, and even though he resisted every look she threw his way, it didn’t stop him from leaving a brand on her heart that followed her to college. Five years later, she’s come home to find him living under the same roof, and it feels like nothing has changed. Except for the science lab she’s built in the garage and the secrets he’s keeping.
Their six-year age difference suddenly seems inconsequential when Violet lands back in Dawson’s world. Instead, it’s the three separate lives he’s leading that requires he keeps every ounce of desire he feels for her in check. Their tantalizing connection will have to remain what it’s always been: a dream that won’t come true.
But when the clandestine activity surrounding his international boat race tangles Violet in its grasp, there’s nothing he won’t do to keep her safe…even if it means making her his.

About the Author
Award-winning author LJ Evans writes character-driven contemporary romance novels that are full of raw emotion and are inspired by music.
She lives in the Central Valley of California with her husband, daughter, and the three terrors called cats. She’s been writing, almost as a compulsion, since she was a little girl and will often pull the car over to write when a song lyric strikes her. A former 1st-grade teacher, she now spends her free time reading and writing, as well as binge-watching original shows like The Crown, A Discovery of Witches, Veronica Mars and Stranger Things.
If you ask her the one thing she won’t do, it’s pretty much anything that involves dirt–sports, gardening, or otherwise. But she loves to write about all of those things, and her first published heroine was pretty much involved with dirt on a daily basis. Which is exactly why LJ loves fiction novels–the characters can be everything you’re not and still make their way into your heart.
